Sharing, security and access control

Concepts in this section cover how access is granted and restricted, including sharing, roles, and tag-based controls.

Control Tag

What is it?

A control tag is a label that restricts access to files, snapshots, or systems—only users who have been assigned the tag can access the resource.

Why does it matter?

Control tags add an extra layer of security so that only authorized people (e.g., team members with the right clearance) can view or edit sensitive data.

Key details

  • Acts like a "need-to-know" lock on top of sharing permissions.
  • Can be applied to models, artifacts, or users.
  • Example tags: "Confidential," "Project-X-Team."
  • Control tags only restrict access; they do not grant it.

How it connects to other concepts

  • Permissions: Work alongside roles (Viewer, Editor, Admin).
  • Control Plane: Managed in the Admin Panel.

Example

Tag a design file with "Confidential" to limit access to users who also have that tag assigned.
